Five Niche Travel Products I Actually Used on My Summer Travels

1. Kodak PIXPRO FZ55 Digital Camera

This is probably my favorite purchase I’ve made in a LONG while! When you see the photos (peep some here!), you will KNOW why I recommend this camera. It is SO small, easy to use, and relatively inexpensive, and these photos have ZERO edits!! I did not have this camera for Japan and South Korea, but I am SO happy I had it for Europe. The way I came across it was by typing in "digital cameras that feel like film” into TikTok. I also searched people’s settings, as that can totally change the images too!

It also made me more intentional about taking photos. Instead of constantly pulling out my phone, I could snap a picture and keep exploring. If you need any convincing, here are just SOME of the photos I took on my Europe trip. Literally ZERO EDITS!!!!

2. Hypochlorous Acid Spray

I discovered this this year and use it in my everyday life! If you’ve never heard of hypochlorous acid, it’s basically a gentle disinfecting spray that helps reduce bacteria and odors—and it has become one of my weirdly essential travel products. Many formulas are designed to be pet-safe and safe for use on food-contact surfaces when used as directed, making it an incredibly versatile thing to have while traveling. I bring a small bottle of hypochlorous acid spray and use it throughout my trip, especially on shoes after long days of walking!! A quick spray helps freshen up shoes and can be used to clean certain travel items and surfaces. When the same pair of sneakers has survived airports, trains, city streets, and 20,000-step sightseeing days, this earns its spot in my bag.

Travel tip: I spray my shoes at the end of the day and let them fully air-dry overnight. Always check the product directions and material compatibility before using it on shoes or other belongings.

3. Disposable Steam Eye Masks

I use a Bruder mask when I am at home, as it is great for dry eyes! Though it does require a microwave…enter disposable heated masks! These have become a must-pack for any long-haul trip. The masks gently warm up as soon as you open them—no microwave, charger, or setup needed. You just put one on, close your eyes, and let it do its thing. I love using one on overnight flights when I’m trying to convince myself it’s time to sleep, but they’re also amazing back at the hotel after a long day of sightseeing. They take up almost no space, and there’s something about the warmth that makes an airplane seat feel slightly more relaxing.

Travel tip: Keep a few in your personal item instead of packing them in your suitcase. I like having one for the flight there, one for the flight home, and a couple for particularly exhausting travel days.

4. Individual Floss Brushes

Now, these are nothing new, but the INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED piece is what has made them a favorite of mine. Not glamorous, but hear me out. Individually wrapped floss brushes are one of those tiny things I always keep in my personal item. They take up virtually no space and are so convenient after an airport meal, a long flight, or a day when you’re eating your way through a new city. Because they’re individually wrapped, I can throw a few into my purse or day bag without carrying an entire container of floss picks around.

Travel tip: I keep a few in every bag (personal item, day bag, and toiletry kit) so I always have one when I need it.

5. Canon Mini Photo Printer

I am officially obsessed with travel journaling (this is honestly what got me into it!), and having a mini photo printer with me has made it so much more fun. I can print a few favorite photos from the day right from my phone and add them to my journal alongside ticket stubs, little notes, maps, receipts, and whatever else I’ve collected along the way. It’s also become one of my favorite ways to wind down while traveling. Instead of spending the end of the night endlessly scrolling through my phone, I can sit down, pick a few photos, write about the day, and actually process everything I just experienced.

The tiktok below is one I filmed before I started my journal and using this printer. I need to do an updated video because after eight countries, two continents, and one state, I love EVERYTHING I brought with me.

Travel tip: I have a mini canvas zip pouch that has all of my travel journal essentials! This includes my journal, favorite pens (that I discovered in Japan), extra printer paper, scrapbook tape and mini scissors! This is also a great place to keep scraps safe before I put them into the journal.
